Three-County Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Network
Description

This project will develop a regional bicycle/pedestrian network plan across three-counties that will increase physical activity opportunities in new neighborhood parks, trails and greenways. Key policy actions include engaging elected officials to support active living, updating the regional Long Range Transportation Plan, and working with Department of Transportation engineers and local planners to implement proposed changes. Promotional activities include presenting at conferences, developing media stories, mapping routes and encouraging Safe Routes to School programs. Opportunities for physical activity programming will be expanded in rural areas and for low income populations, people of color, and older adults.

This project could be a good model for an umbrella agency such as a Metropolitan Planning Organization or Council of Governments to develop trail building and promotion as an integrated active living approach.

This organization was one of 25 demonstration projects selected by Active Living by Design, a national program of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF).
