ACT!vate Omaha
Description

ACT!vate Omaha is a multi-disciplinary collaborative that launched an awareness campaign on the benefits associated with active living. ACT!vate Omaha is a community-wide initiative encouraging all Omahans to incorporate physical activity into daily living. The project will assess activity options and obstacles to active living and address ways to improve community design and land use policies that support active living options.

This project is an example of a large-scale social marketing and intervention effort. It has also implemented a walking schoolbus program in two Omaha schools. It has helped deveelop the best possible program for growth in after school settings.

ACT!vate Omaha is also working with an Omaha planning firm and the city to develop an east to west network of bicycle roues to connect with existing greenways which run north to south. Route mapping, signage for bicycles and promotional efforts will complement the routes for bicycles.

This organization was one of 25 demonstration projects selected by Active Living by Design, a national program of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF).
