Millennium Park has transformed 24.5 acres of railroad track and parking lots into a major venue for cultural and performing arts. The Park showcases architecture, sculpture and landscape design, providing interactive public art, ice skating, walking and biking opportunities.
The site has a sculptural 925-foot long bridge that offers views of the city's skyline and Lake Michigan, providing connection to Grant Park, the city's "front yard" that stretches for a mile along Lake Michigan.. The Park also features Millennium Park Bicycle Station, a 16,448 square foot Bicycle station that houses 300 free indoor parking spaces, lockers, showers, and rental and repair facilities. This bicycle station is accessible to runners and in-line skaters, serves as a major event venue and connects directly to a multi-modal transit center.
Millennium Park Bicycle Station reflects the city's commitment to make Chicago the most bicycle friendly city. In 2001, Bicycling magazine named Chicago the best large city in North America for bicycling. The city continues to invest in infrastructure, promote bicycling education and advocate for facilities to make bicycling easier. The Chicago Police Lakefront Bicycle Unit is located at the station providing a benefit to the users.
