Texas Safe Routes to School Program
Description

This statewide grant program begun in 2002 and administered by TXDOT provides local jurisdictions with funds to improve safety around schools for the purpose of promoting healthy walking to school. Local governments must compete for funds. Eligible uses of the funds include sidewalk improvements, pedestrian/bicycle crossing improvements, on-street bicycle facilities, traffic diversion improvements, off-street bicycle and pedestrian facilities, traffic calming measures. The Texas Bicycle Coalition has worked to publicize the program, inspiring grant requests in excess of the funds allocated.

Goal

Provide local goverments with funds to create safe routes to school
