Location-Efficient Mortgages
Description

Loction Efficient Mortgages (LEM) allows homebuyers to reap financial advantage from an active lifestyle. It allows homebuyers to borrow more money to buy homes in neighborhoods with a mix of destinations within walking distance and good transit connections. The savings are calculated based on how much the homebuyer can save by walking, bicycling and taking transit instead of owning an automobile. Some of the programs include providing the borrowers with an annual transit pass. The program is co-sponsored by Fannie Mae and is available from designated lenders in Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
