Cabo Rojo Lighthouse Project
Description

The restoration of the Cabo Rojo Lighthouse, built originally by the Spanish in 1882, was the first phase in the enhancement of the National Wildlife Refuge in the Southwestern corner of Puerto Rico. The Cabo Rojo Lighthouse rests atop a limestone bluff, which will ultimately be accessible by wooden walkways, bicycle paths and hiking trails, with a visitor.s center and outlook from which to observe local wildlife.

This $3 million enhancement effort began in 2002 and is designed to create local recreational opportunities and encourage tourism.

Goal

Creating recreational and eco-tourism opportunities
