In June of 2003, a Walking workshop was held to focus on improvements to Highway 57. The highway lies next to a popular recreational trail that is 16 miles long and runs from Green Bay through Allouez to De Pere. Still, it.s difficult for the majority of Allouez residents to walk or bicycle between their homes to the trail. In response to this issue, the Brown County Planning Department wrote a detailed report, highlighting four places where crossing along Highway 57 could be improved for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Allouez Walks and Bikes! has been meeting monthly, working with government officials to implement the changes recommended in the report and promote general improvements in the community.
