VT sees health & economic benefits of sidewalks, bike lanes
Some 14 towns across the state of Vermont have significantly enhanced bicycle and pedestrian facilities in 2006, improving the health of communities and boosting the local economy. Rutland Area Physical Activity Coalition Director James Tasse makes the case for healthy community design that allows people to choose non-motorized transportation. As for the economic benefits, Vermont towns Burlington and Stowe each estimate revenues associated with visits to their bicycle paths in the millions of dollars.
