Community Health and Food Access: The Local Government Role
Local governments are recognizing the need to create environments in which all residents have access to affordable and healthy foods in their schools and communities. Today, a growing number of resources and tools are available to help them provide people with a wider range of healthy food choices.
This guide, developed by the International City/County Management Association, provides an overview of strategies and approaches that cities and counties can use to improve access to healthy foods, as well as case studies that examine success stories of community gardens, farmers’ markets, food policy councils, and programs for children.
