Top 10 features of activity-friendly places
Researchers at St. Louis University School of Public Health have identified the top 10 features of activity-friendly communities. The research team compiled a list of over 230 attributes before determining the most important features such as land use, travel patterns and aesthetics. Many recommendations are centered on shifting away from auto-dependent lifestyles.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funded the study to build on existing learning about the relationship between community design and physical activity. Findings will be published in the December 2006 issue of the American Journal of Preventative Medicine.
