Apply to the Sustainable Communities Awards Program

Applications are open until May 11 for the Sustainable Communities Awards Program, run by the National Association of Counties. The program recognizes outstanding county partnerships working to create sustainable communities through economic enhancement, environmental stewardship and social responsibility. Citing active living as an integral element of sustainability, the Center aims to reward programs that include bike and trail systems, zoning that brings fresh food providers into underserved neighborhoods, health and fitness curriculum in schools, and smart growth.

The Awards Program only occurs every two years, so take advantage of this opportunity to enter before May 11, 2007. (Next chance not until 2009.)

Award winners receive several benefits and distinctions, including $10,000 to one Platinum Innovation Award Winner and $5,000 each to up to three Outstanding Practices Award Recipients.
